After 5 weeks in care, wombat Ian Thorpe was released yesterday. We identified two possible burrows and installed one way gates the night before to keep them vacant. One was breached by a very determined wombat so we used option 2. Unfortunately Ian Thorpe didn’t like the burrow for some reason and refused to go in. It was vacant but might smell of foxes. An incredible lucky day for this wombat. Its 1.5 hours drive for us to get here and softly raining. We expected to put a camera up with a flap as this sick wombat lives under the house But as soon as we were on the access road I spotted a wombat shape in the garden She was out and about and we got a dose on her quickly before she bolted What made it harder was the wind was blowing on my back so blowing my smell directly towards her. I could see her sniffing the air as she became aware of me so I
