Vickers Wellington N2980, nicknamed “R for Robert.” On New Year’s Eve 1940, a training flight over Loch Ness ran into trouble when it suffered an engine failure in a snowstorm. Most of the crew managed to get out - but the tail gunner sadly didn’t survive. The aircraft ditched into the loch and vanished into deep, dark water.
