New York City - meet your new Police Officers! We’re proud to welcome 433 new officers who graduated from the police academy today. They were born in 21 countries and speak 34 different languages. For 26 of them, this is the second time putting on the uniform, after serving our nation in the armed forces. The NYPD rounded up 16 alleged gang members in Queens during raids over the past week, Mayor Eric Adams, Police Commissioner Keechant Sewell, and Queens DA Melinda Katz announced. The busts were the culmination of a nearly two-year investigation sparked by the death of a mother who was struck by a stray bullet while out buying milk, an unintended victim of gang violence.
