Muskellunge, or muskie, are one of the largest fish in Minnesota waters. The current state record is a whopping 58 1/4 inch muskie caught on Lake Mille Lacs in 2022! But these fish start small, and every year DNR staff rears 25,000-30,000 muskies to stock Minnesota lakes. While some lakes rely on natural reproduction, with the growing popularity of muskie angling, supplemental stocking helps keep muskie populations healthy and angling opportunities plentiful.
