157 YEARS AGO - July 2, 1863 - Battle of Gettysburg The action moved through woodlots and into “The Wheatfield." Owned by the Rose family, this 20 acre field changed hands at least six times. There were several attacks and counterattacks by mixed units. The third phase of this confusing "whirlpool" saw General John Caldwell's Second Corps division push Confederates back toward the Rose Farm. Additional reinforcements from the Fifth Corps arrived but they were eventually overrun. In all, over 6,0
