CHICAGO (WLS) -- The suspect in a violent carjacking allegedly battered Chicago police officers in the Loop on Friday night.

At least 33 people have been shot, three fatally, so far during the Fourth of July weekend in Chicago since Thursday night.

Two gunmen walked up to a group and opened fire just after 11 p.m. in the 4800 block of South Justine Street, police said.

The victims were near the park when someone approached them and fired shots around 11 p.m. Friday, police said.

At least seven people were seriously injured in a mass shooting on the city's South Side late Friday night, Chicago police said.

The victims were approached on foot by an unknown man who pulled out a gun and fired shots in the victim's direction.
