A manhunt continues for the repeat violent offender who shot and killed a deputy serving a warrant Wednesday afternoon, Houston police say.

A DPS helicopter rushed federal K-9 officer Rocky to the Westbury Animal Hospital after he led authorities to a murder suspect who was hiding in a dumpster. Investigators say the dog's action saved many lives.

Deputy Jesus Vargas, a member of the U.S. Marshal’s Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force was in a shooting in southwest Houston and the shooter has been killed, officials say.

The law enforcement community is mourning the loss of Brazoria County Sheriff's Deputy Jesus Vargas. He's the first deputy in that department to be killed in the line of duty in 14 years. Vargas was part of a team who went to arrest Robert Lee Davis on an aggravated assault charge Wednesday.
