Trailing just behind to round out the top 10 were Arizona, Washington, Indiana, Utah, and Idaho. While Oklahoma and Maine didn't make the top 10 rankings, they represented two out of the three biggest risers year-over-year in U-Haul's rankings, with Oklahoma up by 30 and Maine up by 18 (Indiana was also in that top three, up by 19).

U-Haul announced that South Carolina tops its list for fastest growing state in 2024 based on its one-way movers. The company said the growth rankings are configured by each state’s net gain (or loss) of customers utilizing one-way U-Haul equipment in a calendar year.

South Carolina saw the biggest influx of one-way movers, per the U-Haul Growth Index. The index analyzes one-way customer arrivals and departures in the year.

South Carolina moved up three spots in the U-Haul ranking this year, to edge out Texas, which was the top growth state for the previous three years and has been first or second on the list every year since 2016. More than 51.7% of U-Haul movers coming and going from South Carolina were arrivals, the ranking found.
