Najib, 71, has consistently denied wrongdoing and on Thursday expressed remorse about the 1MDB scandal in a letter read at a press conference by his son, Mohamad Nizar Mohd Najib.

On Oct 24, in a statement read out by his son Nizar, Najib made an “unreserved” apology to Malaysians over the 1MDB fiasco, which led to his incarceration in the SRC International Sdn Bhd case.

Among the richest was Najib’s younger brother, chief executive officer of Bumiputra Holdings Company, worth $100 million, and the son of former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohammed with $285 million.
