The Cincinnati Bengals have repeatedly stressed this offseason that they plan to lock up integral stars Ja'Marr Chase, Tee Higgins and Trey Hendrickson. However, one of the three remains without a long-term deal.

Hendrickson is an elite edge rusher trying to cash in for likely the last time in his career and, from all reports, has been an absolutely tremendous teammate and leader. And the Bengals defense is non-functional without him. As fans, this is not enjoyable to watch play out.

The Bengals already had long battles at the negotiating table with receivers Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins, which is surely going to inhibit their ability to give Hendrickson a market-value contract. Chase reset the market when he signed a four-year, $161 million contract extension, the largest for any receiver.

The Bengals have managed to sign three of the four players specifically named by quarterback Joe Burrow during his campaign to get the team to break the piggy bank for key members of the roster.
