Construction has begun on a 23-story student housing tower at UC Berkeley that will soon become the tallest building in the city and add more than 1,600 beds, officials confirmed.

At the meeting, the Planning Department gave the green light to Wentworth Institute of Technology's institutional master plan, which includes the construction of the 972-bed Pike Residence Hall.
