After 18 seasons as head coach of the Baltimore Ravens, John Harbaugh is reportedly nearing an agreement to become head coach of the New York Giants, taking him from coaching an established quarterback in Lamar Jackson to a relatively inexperienced one in Jaxson Dart.
In early 2023, Jackson had no existing contract. The Ravens, after months of failed negotiations, eventually extended a five-year, $262.5 million offer. It made him, at the time, the highest-paid player in the league, with an annual average of $52.5 million.
The dust has settled on the franchise-altering decision to part with John Harbaugh in Baltimore, but another massive priority remains: extending Lamar Jackson.
The original deal Jackson signed in May 2023 is a five-year, $260 million contract worth $52 million per year. It includes a no-trade clause and protections preventing the Ravens from using a franchise or transition tag when the deal expires after 2027.
It's early, but Baltimore has cast a wide net in its search, and the team has communicated with Lamar Jackson after each interview.
