Overnight temperatures dropped to minus 14.5C overnight into Friday, the coldest night of the winter so far in the UK.

Overnight temperatures fell as low as minus 14C in Altanharra, northern Scotland, according to the Met Office.

As snow, sleet and ice continue to affect much of the country, the Met Office is urging people to stay safe in the cold weather and to take precautions when heading outdoors. If you are going outside for a walk you should follow a "thin clothing" rule and wear several layers of light clothes, rather than one thick layer.

Parts of Wales are set for another cold snap on Thursday, with two weather warnings in place for snow and ice. The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for snow and ice for parts of north, west and mid Wales from 00:15 GMT on Thursday until 11:00.
