BURLINGTON, Vt. (WABI) - The Maine Black Bears will play for an America East Men’s Basketball Championship for the first time since 2004. No. 3 Maine upset No. 2 Vermont, 57-42, in Burlington to advance. The Black Bears led 27-19 at halftime and outscored the Catamounts, 30-23, to seal the win.

Vermont basketball trailed from start to finish in stunning America East semifinal home loss to Maine on Tuesday night.

Championship Week continues Tuesday with the semifinals of the America East. Perennial power Vermont (21-11) takes the court against Maine (19-13) with the winner moving to within one win of the Madness. The Catamounts knocked off the Black Bears on February 15 by the score of 65-61. The Game Total OVER 125.5 barely cashed, but it cashed.

The Albany Great Danes play in the America East Tournament against the Maine Black Bears. Monday's matchup is the first of the season for the two teams.

Vermont is right behind the Black Bears as the 231st team in his power rankings, but the Catamounts grade out as the ninth-luckiest team out of 364 in all of Division I. Moreover, Maine got a huge monkey of its back with a 74-62 win over UMass-Lowell on Saturday.

The Black Bears snap a 30-game losing streak against Vermont and will play for a trip to the NCAA tournament on Saturday.
