The two Timberwolves, who were instrumental in last season's Knicks success, return to the Garden Friday night, but DiVincenzo is out with a toe sprain.
There was no Villanova reunion. There was no anticipated spat with Rick Brunson to keep an eye on. Former fans didn’t have the chance to watch him play on the Garden floor during what has been a hot streak for the Delaware native.
The 21-19 Minnesota Timberwolves have struggled to get on the same page at times after making a monstrous offseason trade that brought in Julius Randle
Friday night marked Randle’s first game back at Madison Square Garden since the Knicks traded him and Donte DiVincenzo to the Minnesota Timberwolves in the three-team blockbuster that brought center Karl-Anthony Towns to New York.
It sucks,” Randle said. “I guess we’ll never know what could’ve been. I think the more unfortunate part is everything was a build, a constant build — I feel like all our teams overachieved year

Knicks center Karl-Anthony Towns is questionable to face his former team Friday with a sprained right thumb, while Minnesota’s Donte DiVincenzo will miss his return to Madison Square Garden with a toe injury.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The misses by Anthony Edwards and the Minnesota Timberwolves kept coming, jumpers from everywhere on the court that bounced off the rim while the dutiful crowd stayed standing for the first 4:27 of the game until the home team finally scored and the fans took a seat.
Anthony Edwards scored 36 points, going 12-for-21 from the field in Minnesota’s 116-99 win over the Knicks to help them climb back to .500.
Jalen Brunson led the way for New York with a strong 26 points, but his 9-23 shooting was a microcosm of the team's struggles all day. The Knicks shot 38% from the field as a team with only Cameron Payne (18 points off the bench) shooting over 50% from the field for the game.
Edwards posted game highs in points (36), rebounds (13) and assists (seven) to lead Minnesota to a win on Friday.
