INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The Spanish-speaking population is growing in central Indiana, so the National Weather Service at Indianapolis is pushing to get more information out in their language.

Spanish weather communication gaps are getting extra attention, including a new bilingual meteorologist at the National Weather Service office in Boulder.

NWS started training the Spanish-language AI model in weather terminology in 2020. But Bozeman and her team didn’t want to use a system that simply repackaged tools like Google Translate.
