TSMC is working to build two plants in Arizona faster, a move that could bring more Apple chip production to Arizona quicker — but don't expect the newest chips.

TSMC’s global expansion also includes a second fab in Kumamoto, Japan, expected to break ground later this year, following the launch of its first plant in late 2024. In Europe, construction of a fab in Dresden, Germany, is progressing steadily, with mass production timing dependent on customer interest.

“After completion, around 30% of our 2-nanometer and more advanced [chip] capacity will be located in Arizona, creating an independent, leading-edge semiconductor manufacturing cluster in the U.S.,” TSMC Chairman and CEO C.C. Wei told investors and reporters in an earnings conference on Thursday.
