President Donald Trump called the U.S. men's hockey team after they won the Olympic gold against Canada. His joke about the women's team went viral.

The Team USA women’s hockey squad received online support after declining an invitation from the White House to attend the State of the Union address. The winning team, which beat Canada for the gold at the 2026 Winter Olympics, cited “timing and previously scheduled academic and professional commitments” as the reason behind their decline.
