The latest winter weather updates and what is happening in Asheville and Western North Carolina today, Jan. 24.

Millions across the country, including much of North Carolina, are dealing with a mix of ice, sleet and snow as the winter storm moves east.

On Saturday at 2:36 p.m. the NWS Greenville-Spartanburg SC released an updated ice storm warning in effect until Monday at 1 p.m. The warning is for Greater Rutherford and Eastern Polk as well as Cleveland,

A storm system has engulfed much of the South and threatens to affect millions more as it continues to move northeast, dumping ice, snow and sleet over communities. Western North Carolina is expected to see conditions that could mean prolonged power outages.

Areas in South Carolina and North Carolina are expecting a high-impact ice storm to move in Saturday night and continue into Sunday.

There are over 15,000 power outages reported across western North Carolina, according to Ready NC's power outage map.

On Monday at 1:38 a.m. a cold weather advisory was released by the NWS Greenville-Spartanburg SC valid from 6 p.m. until Tuesday noon. The advisory is for Caldwell Mountains, Burke Mountains, McDowell Mountains,
