Orbitz.com, the online travel service owned by five major airlines, has begun charging $5 service fees to purchase airline tickets online.

American Airlines pulled its flights from the Orbitz travel website on Tuesday in a dispute that could eventually affect the way travelers buy airplane tickets online.

The dispute between American Airlines and Orbitz Worldwide arose when Orbitz refused to use American's direct connect link and the airline stopped selling its tickets on Orbitz sites in December.
