President Donald Trump met with police and military in D.C., on Thursday to oversee the surge in federal law enforcement as he talks about expanding to other cities.

As the Trump administration escalates its deployment of troops in the nation’s capital and vows similar moves elsewhere, leaders of largely Democratic cities across the country are pushing back.

For years, it has seemed as if President Donald Trump really wanted to deploy the military on US soil and was just looking for the right opportunities to do it.

Military lawyers have been deployed to handle misdemeanor prosecutions in D.C., while federal law enforcement has arrested 630 people in Trump's ongoing crime reduction initiative.

There has been a significant fall in overall violent crime since the crackdown started, according to Washington's Metropolitan Police Department (MPD). It recorded 75 violent crimes from 12-26 August, a drop of 23% on the previous two weeks. Property crimes, such as burglary and vehicle theft, fell by about a quarter over the same period.

One person was injured Wednesday morning in a crash involving a military vehicle in the District, according to DC Fire and EMS.
