During the trip west, oxen would go through several pair of shoes. You can see a pair of ox shoes in the tool room in the Historical Museum with the display on covered wagons.

Unlike horses, oxen have cloven hooves so their shoes had to be made in two pieces. From medieval times until horses and tractors replaced them, oxen were the main beast of burden on Cornish farms.
