Following an interim investigation, South Korea's transport ministry revealed that the fire may have been sparked by a power bank, specifically a breakdown in the insulation inside the battery.

A portable power bank likely caused a fire that engulfed and destroyed a passenger plane in South Korea in January, according to local authorities. The Air Busan plane caught fire at Gimhae International Airport in the country's south on 28 January – causing three people on board to sustain minor injuries.

Air Astana, Singapore Airlines, Scoot, EVA Air, China Airlines, and Thai Airways are among airlines that have recently updated their policy on carrying and usage of power banks onboard their aircraft due to growing safety concerns.
