Houston is preparing for a historic winter storm expected to bring up to 6 inches of snow, a rare event not seen in decades.

Expect scattered showers with highs close to 70 Wednesday after a drizzly morning. On Thursday, expect a possible line of strong to severe storms making it a FOX 26 Storm Alert Day.

Tuesday's snow largely melted Wednesday as temperatures climbed from the teens into the 40s. Highs in the lows 50s are forecasted for Thursday and Friday, with temperatures reaching the 60s this weekend,

HOUSTON — With snow in the forecast, some Houston restaurants decided to close their doors. The temperatures will be frigid and precipitation is in the forecast -- 3-5 inches of snow is expected across the Houston area, with higher totals possible.

Thursday will bring a combination of muggy air, a cold front and a strong upper-level disturbance. Expect at least scattered storms and possibly a line of strong to severe storms, including the slight chance for a tornado or damaging winds of 60 mph+.
