New Jersey Gov. Mikie Sherrill joined a nation of celebrating fans Sunday morning in applauding Devils center Jack Hughes, whose overtime goal handed the United States men’s hockey team its first gold medal since 1980.
The New Jersey Devils had a golden celebration for Jack Hughes on Wednesday. The team honored Hughes and Team USA for winning the gold medal at the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026 before their first game back from the break against the Buffalo Sabres at Prudential Center.
New Jersey Gov. Mikie Sherrill was met with a chorus of boos at the Prudential Center during a ceremonial puck drop for Devils star Jack Hughes and other 2026 Olympic gold medalists.
Jack Hughes received a standing ovation from Pittsburgh Penguins fans four days after he delivered a gold medal to the United States. The crowd then proceeded to cheer the rest of the evening for the goaltender who silenced Hughes and the New Jersey Devils all night.
