Controversial Australian star Nick Kyrgios believes his Grand Slam comeback has come at the right time because tennis has become "a bit mundane".

Nick Kyrgios claimed Friday tennis was getting mundane without him as he prepares for his Grand Slam comeback at the Australian Open, saying he was feeling "pretty good" after an injury scare.

The Aussie will play only his second singles match in 18 months against British No.3 Jacob Fearnley in the Melbourne first round. Kygrios claimed earlier this week that this could be his final Australian Open after suffering career-threatening wrist and knee injuries.
