The project has had a long road to the screen. It initially shot in 2022, and was scheduled to debut in theaters in June 2024, however last February, Lionsgate pushed the release to June 6, 2025. The extra time allowed John Wick guru Chad Stahelski to assist with upping the action working in tandem with helmer Wiseman on new sequences.

Keanu Reeves is returning for "John Wick 5." Meanwhile, an animated prequel film and canine spinoff from director Donnie Yen are also in the works.

Speaking at CinemaCon about the film, Lionsgate Motion Picture Group head Adam Fogelson assured attendees that Reeves, Stahelski, Iwanyk, and Lee wouldn’t signed on “unless they had something truly phenomenal and fresh to say with these characters and this world,” according to IGN.

Lionsgate Motion Picture Group chair Adam Fogelson broke the news at CinemaCon on Tuesday. Chad Stahelski, who directed all four of the previous John Wick movies, along with producers Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee, will join Reeves in returning to the series of films that have grossed more than $1 billion worldwide.
