The militant group’s attacks, apparently at the behest of Iran, led to retaliation from Israel and were “practically a suicide mission” for Hezbollah, an analyst said.

Lebanon is seeing civilians fleeing their homes in the south as Israeli strikes hit Beirut’s southern suburbs after Hezbollah stepped into the U.S.-Israel war on Iran.

“When war crimes and other grave abuses take place with complete impunity, they are likely to happen again, with civilians paying the price,” said Ramzi Kaiss, Lebanon researcher at Human Rights Watch. “Allied countries need to put pressure on Israel and Hezbollah to abide by the laws of war and minimize civilian harm.”

An Israeli security source tells the Saudi news channel Al-Hadath that there will be “no immunity for any politician or military figure in Hezbollah, and even for its supporters.” The source also adds that the IDF’s new offensive against the Lebanese terror group “will be broad and comprehensive and may include a [ground] invasion.”

Energy prices have surged in the wake of the US-Israel attacks on Iran and Tehran’s retaliatory strikes on Gulf neighbours. Traffic through the Strait of Hormuz has dried up.
