WASHINGTON (AP) — The Republican-led Congress is testing the popularity of Department of Government Efficiency spending cuts this week by aiming to pass President Donald Trump’s request to claw back about $9 billion in public broadcasting and foreign aid spending.
The Republican-led Congress is moving to cancel over $9 billion in previously approved public broadcasting and foreign aid funds at President Trump's request. The Senate narrowly approved cuts including over $1 billion from public broadcasting (PBS, NPR) and $7.9 billion from various foreign aid programs.
The Senate voted to claw back billions of dollars from humanitarian aid that would devastate groups helping refugees and people in need. The House is expected to approve the cuts.
