The Iraqi Ministry of Electricity is carrying out the Basra Sun solar power project in collaboration with French energy firm TotalEnergies.

The solar project, which will be developed in phases to come online between 2025 and 2027, will generate up to 1.25 GW at peak using 2 million bifacial solar panels, QatarEnergy said.

Iraq's renewable energy ambitions are not limited to large-scale projects. The government has announced plans to add 12,000 MW of solar energy to the national grid by 2030.
