What do you wish you knew about Brightspace? Our school is changing to Brightspace for the Spring semester. There will be no training for faculty, but we’re encouraged to use the winter break to figure it out. With that in mind, I’ve seen threads from experienced users here over the years. Any useful, actionable advice for complete beginners?
Opinions on Brightspace platform? Is it more similar to Canvas or Blackboard? Is it user-friendly from the instructor side or a hassle to set up and utilize? We might be switching so just trying to analyze the situation!
In Brightspace, select your class, then click your profile icon on the top right corner. Select “Progress” and then under Discussions choose “Posts Authored”. It will show you every discussion post and reply you’ve written for that class.
In my experience all I can see is what you do on brightspace itself. How long you’re on specific materials, what course materials you open etc. it seems to be just local to our course site. I haven’t explored fully though because I don’t really care what my students are doing in other tabs etc.
I have significant experience using and supporting D2L (often branded as Brightspace) as both an adjunct instructor and as an instructional designer. I also have a fair bit of experience with Canvas, a small bit of experience with Moodle, but only a passing familiarity with Blackboard, other than hearing that most instructors dislike it.
Welcome! Your classes will be available after 12/25 on Brightspace. From mySNHU, click the menu in the upper left corner and then the Brightspace link. You will not be able to access classes prior to that. However, SNHU keeps a repository of class syllabus on their website. To access, follow the same as above but then click Academics > Resources and navigate to the SNHU Syllabus Library. Hope ...
I've got five years of experience working with D2L/Brightspace, and two years of experience with Canvas. I would say that overall Canvas is more user-friendly, but it sacrifices some amount of flexibility and customization because of that friendliness.
Brightspace only holds for 60 days, so no. Also, there is a self plagiarism policy, so you can't just reuse work from a previous attempt. You would need permission from the current instructor. You would need to make revisions, and you would need to cite yourself for parts you may be reusing.
A lot of people in class discords are going on about Brightspace logging when you switch tabs. I know that it is technically possible to see when this happens, but do they actually log it? From a brief search on the googs, I can't find anything supporting this. Has anyone actually been caught cheating in this way?
Currently in my last term, capstone course- OL421. I have never had to upload a power-point for a discussion (peer review week). I have asked my instructor, but he has given me very unhelpful answers (not to mention replies very slowly). I've looked on YouTube but there aren't any tutorials for doing this on Brightspace. Two years at this school, three weeks left in this term, and I am OVER IT ...
