The Kia was southbound on Highway 61 when it tried to pass a semi truck pulling a trailer. The semi the Kia was trying to pass also initiated a passing maneuver for a slower moving vehicle and the Kia didn't think they could overtake that vehicle also. The Kia drove off the left side of the road and into the ditch striking a tree. Kia came to rest on its roof.
The Toyota Prius was northbound on US Highway 63. The Freightliner semi was eastbound on Olmsted county 12 when they collided in the intersection and ended up in the south ditch of MN Hwy 247.
